God delivers the decalogue. Jesus cleanses the temple. Paul comments on the wisdom of God made manifest through the cross. Each points to the particular character of the Christian life, most clearly revealed through Jesus and the cross.

Lent 1 -- Temptation of Jesus

First Sunday in Lent Readings

In Mark’s gospel, the situation is so urgent, that Jesus is driven into the wilderness by the Spirit immediately as he comes up out of the water from his baptism. God goes to great lengths to redeem this world, and we see that this week in the story of Jesus’ temptation.
